Rust Console Dev Blog #54: Underground Trains Goes Live + Sunburn DLC

Rust Console Dev Blog #54 is here, and it is the one everyone has been waiting for: Underground Trains lands on the main branch with the monthly wipe on August 27. The two-part update teased back in Dev Blog #53 is now a full release, and it brings a whole new layer to the island, a new enemy faction, rideable Work Carts, and the summer-themed Sunburn DLC Pack.

Underground Trains

A brand-new underground railway network now runs beneath the island, connecting the major areas of the map. Tunnel entrances sit near monuments and are marked with map icons so you can find your way in and out. It is the biggest change to how you move around Rust Console Edition since World 2.0: you can cross the map underground, away from roof campers and road PvP.

Bunker Entrances

Alongside the main tunnel entrances, bunker entrances give you alternative ways into the network. Each one features multiple rooms, loot opportunities, and surveillance equipment so you can check surface conditions before you pop back out into the open. Perfect for planning an exit that does not walk you straight into an ambush.

Underground Stations

The network is dotted with fully constructed underground stations, complete with platforms, loot, Work Carts, and enemies. Every station has a slightly different layout, so you cannot autopilot through them: pay attention, learn the rooms, and you will clear them faster than the next team.

Tunnel Dwellers

The tunnels are not empty. A new hostile faction, the Tunnel Dwellers, patrols the stations and railways. They are armed with M39 Rifles and M92 Pistols, and while they are less durable than the island's scientists, they will punish you if you head down unprepared.

Clear them and they drop a genuinely useful spread: components, medical supplies, ammunition, clothing, tools, electrical items, weapon attachments, and explosives. The underground is a real loot run, not just a shortcut.

Work Carts

Work Carts let you travel through the tunnels at high speed, powered by Low Grade Fuel. They run forwards and backwards at multiple speeds, and you get an underground map view while you ride so you always know where you are heading. Fast rotations, cheeky escapes, and hauling loot across the map just got a lot more interesting.

Sunburn DLC Pack

Dropping the same day (August 27) is the Sunburn Pack, a summer-themed cosmetic DLC with 15 beach items. Expect a Boogie Board, pools, water guns, recliners, sunglasses, swimwear, an Instant Camera, and three Photo Frames. Peak island summer energy for your base and your character.

Server-Side Performance Improvements

The team also confirmed that server-side performance improvements are in development, with a focus on supporting higher-population servers. There is no set date yet, as higher-pop servers are still under testing and analysis, but it is firmly on the roadmap.

Underground Trains is the biggest returning-player wave since World 2.0, so this wipe is the one to be ready for:

• Get your listing wipe-ready. Announce your wipe schedule, refresh your description to mention the new underground content, and make sure your live player count is showing so returning players can see your server is active.
• Connect your server for an accurate live count. Reading your player count directly from your own server keeps your listing honest and current. List your server free, or grab paid placement to sit at the top of the list before the rush.
