Rust Console Dev Blog #52: World 2.0 Part 2 — Caves, Radtown, Radioactive Water & New Skins
Rust Console Dev Blog #52 is here, and it's a big one. The team has shared fresh details on World 2.0 (Part 2) — the second half of the biggest update in Rust Console Edition history — plus a revamped skin store, a wave of new space-themed DLC, an update on higher-population servers, and a clear message about the recent DDoS attacks on official servers.
World 2.0 Part 2 lands with the monthly wipe, so here's everything coming and what it means for your next wipe.
World 2.0 (Part 2)
World 2.0 (Part 2) brings the remaining features from the last update — new monuments and a series of changes to the world of Rust Console Edition. These are the headline additions.
Caves
Caves are natural monuments that appear on large maps. Unlike most other monuments, certain cave areas do not trigger building restrictions — meaning you can build and set up bases inside them. That makes caves one of the most interesting new locations to explore (and fight over) in World 2.0 Part 2.
Radtown
Radtowns are dangerous, radiation-filled ruins left behind by a collapsed civilization — easily recognised by their rough, scrap-built structures and abandoned-wasteland look. Also known as Toxic Village, this early-game monument offers useful loot, a recycler, and a Green Keycard puzzle. It's a tempting stop for survivors willing to risk radiation exposure and nearby PvP threats.
Radioactive Water
Radioactive Water is a rare and dangerous resource found only in a few shallow pools inside Radtown. You can collect it with containers such as Water Jugs or Small Water Bottles and use it as both an unusual utility item and a hazardous weapon.
If a player dies after being sprayed with it — or while carrying it — their corpse can create a small radiation zone that threatens anyone without proper protection. It's just as destructive to crops, instantly killing them when sprayed onto farmland. Expect some creative offline-raid and farm-griefing plays around this one.
Water Well Monument Update
Water Wells already provide access to fresh drinking water through the existing hand pump. This update expands the monument with a Vendor NPC, Food Caches, and a Small Planter — giving survivors a few extra reasons to stop by while exploring.
Updated Skin Store
The team recently tested a new skin store built around player feedback, with the goal of offering more variety and giving players more choices at any given time. A new Legacy Skins tab will feature a wider selection of returning skins and will keep growing with more offers over time based on player requests. The response to the test store was extremely positive, and the updated version is rolling out with this update.
New Additional Content: Space Theme
This month brings a lot of new space-themed Additional Content (DLC) to the game.
Space Suit
With Project Nova moving fast, Cobalt had no time to design a proper EVA suit from scratch. Using stolen concepts, they quickly produced a small number of protective suits — many of which vanished. A few survived for use on Earth thanks to their strong radiation protection (handy timing, given the new Radtown and radioactive water).
Space LR-300 Assault Rifle
Built with advanced polymer materials and a retro ammo-display counter, this rare weapon skin is made for only the most skilled survivors.
Space Station Building Skin
Fallen from a space station that once orbited Earth, this wreckage can now be scavenged to protect your base and your most valuable loot. Built to withstand the impact of space debris, the reinforced walls of this armoured command module make a striking upgrade for your base.
Higher Population Servers
Testing for higher-population servers is still ongoing. Earlier this month the team ran a public test with several Rust Console Edition content creators, which surfaced a few key optimisation areas that still need work. Those improvements are in progress, and once ready they'll head back to the PTB for another round of testing.
If everything goes well, the team can then begin planning the rollout for higher-population servers. No date yet for the next test — they'll share it once they're ready.
Server DDoS Attacks
There's been a slight increase in DDoS attacks targeting official servers, and the team has made it clear that action is being taken. They're continuing to improve DDoS protection and will permanently ban any players found to be involved in attacks against the servers.
DDoS attacks are a direct violation of the game's Terms of Service — anyone who attempts to disrupt official servers this way will face permanent action on their account.
What This Means for Server Owners
World 2.0 Part 2 arrives with the monthly wipe, which means another fresh-start surge of players hunting for a server. New monuments like Caves and Radtown change how maps play, and a wipe day is the single best time to attract new players. Make sure your listing is ready:
- Update your wipe date so players see your fresh World 2.0 Part 2 wipe
- Add an event to your listing to announce your launch wipe date and time
- Connect the RCE Bot to your Discord for live player counts (so your server never looks dead)
- Consider a paid tier for priority placement during the wipe surge
Browse the full Rust Console server list, or list your own server free before the wipe. Owners who are ready for the surge benefit the most.
Bottom Line
World 2.0 Part 2 rounds out the biggest overhaul Rust Console Edition has ever had — Caves you can build inside, the return of Radtown and its radioactive water, a refreshed Water Well, a better skin store, and a full space-themed DLC drop. Pair that with the ongoing higher-population work and a firm stance on DDoS, and it's a strong month for the game.
It all lands with the monthly wipe. Get your squad ready and find a server for your World 2.0 Part 2 wipe.
